Wrinkles on the forehead are generally perceived as signs of wisdom, usually telling tales of what went before in time with you. Some attribute the origin of wrinkles to genetics. However, times have changed and so are the reasons for the development of wrinkles on forehead. Premature wrinkles on the forehead arise due to bad dietary habits, sleep debt or may be a consequence of overwhelming responsibilities.
Here are some guidelines to prevent the formation of wrinkles and erase the ones already present. The remedies are not magic potions; some of them may give the result within days while some others address the issue on lasting grounds but gradually. Using them regularly would definitely benefit you.
1. Petroleum jelly
Petroleum jelly is a great discovery of all times, as it is a remedy for silencing the creaking doors to erasing your forehead wrinkles. Wrinkles appear because of dehydration or lack of collagen and elastin in the skin. The skin loses its elasticity with time and creases develop in the form of wrinkles. Petroleum jelly is an excellent humectant, i.e. it has an ability to attract and retain moisture.
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your forehead in the evening after washing your face; it is better if you apply it on the wet forehead. The skin will retain moisture and the petroleum jelly will work its way through the skin layers in the night.
2. Exercise your forehead muscles
Yoga for the face is the latest fad in skin care. Train your forehead muscles to be more active and they will lose their sluggishness. Make a C with your hands and place them on your face. The index finger should be aligned with the upper brow and the thumbs should be on either side of the nose, just above the nostrils. Place the fingers of each hand downwards and sideward at the same time of rolling your shoulder blades down. Open your eyes as wide as possible and maintain the position for five seconds, squint your eyes five times and close your eyes. Relax and repeat for two more times, go over this routine every day until you see results.
3. Massage your forehead
Massaging your forehead with olive oil, coconut oil or a combination would erase the wrinkles on the forehead gradually. This will bring back the lost elasticity.
4. Apply aloe vera
Aloe vera is another natural constituent with amazing benefits for your digestion and many skin ailments. Its moisture retaining properties make it an excellent choice for skin care. It also delivers anti-inflammatory benefits and promotes the healing and regeneration of dry skin, thereby easing wrinkly forehead.
Before washing your face in the morning, apply a moderate amount of aloe vera to your forehead and let it remain there for a while. Another option is to combine it with egg white. The Vitamin E content of both the ingredients would deliver anti-oxidant activity spot on. Wash it off with warm water and apply your moisturizer. You can adapt the routine in the evening before massaging with the oil of your choice if you have more time on your hand.
5. Try a citrus face pack
Citrus fruits are magical for your skin; enriched with Vitamin C and E, they deliver an instant lift to your skin, making it smooth and velvety. Topical Vitamin C in the form of face packs is absorbed into the deeper skin layers and decelerates the free radical damage for a lasting result.
You can make a face pack at your home out of the pulp of oranges and lemon or mix it with a little flour. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. For sensitive skin, do not use lemon.
6. Lifestyle adjustments
This would include healthy eating habits, some kind of physical activity, good sleep pattern, avoiding the sun, avoiding squinting and quitting smoking.
Washing your face too frequently and trying different face washes also dry out your skin. If you need to wash your face, try using the face wash once daily and rinse only the rest of the times.
If you are squinting too much trying to read labels, then you need glasses, get your eyesight fixed. Similarly, the act of smoking not only causes wrinkles on your forehead but also affects the other facial muscles; quitting smoking will benefit you in infinite ways.
A healthy diet enriched with anti-oxidants and keeping hydrated would do wonders for your forehead skin.
